The name comes from the word Pljesak which means “to clap hands”. Sometimes Pljeskavica is called a Balkan burger, because it is also very popular in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Montenegro.

Rosti Cafe in Belgrade

Belgrade the capital city of Serbia is definitely a city that isn’t short of food joints. The city has a huge number of eateries, fast food joints, bakeries, and bars, in this city, you will never be left hungry.
Street food has always had a huge presence in Belgrade and
PLJESKAVICA tops the list
One of the most popular kiosks is Loki, located in the old part of the city center in Dorcol in Belgrade. The place is really small however it serves the best PLJESKAVICA in town.
The little hole-in-the-wall fast food place is run by three women all of them very helpful. The entire menu is written in Serbian and I shall confess now I was lost. The women pointed out to one of the dishes and said this is very nice.I agreed and took my favorite Serbian beer, Jelen. The Serbian Burger was one of the most delicious burgers I had in my life.

The other place where you could try Pljeskavica is Rosti. This one is located in one of the quiet neighborhoods in Belgrade and can be little difficult to find. The place is run by a cute elderly couple.Unlike Loki, the interiors of this place are very stylish. The place is more like funky Serbian pub.The burger here was as nice as the one in Loki.

3.)Why eat Pljeskavica!

PLJESKAVICA – at Rosti

There are enough reasons why Pljeskavica is not your average burger
Start from Ajvar. This roasted pepper relish goes so well with the meat patty. It’s better than any sauce you get in fast food joints
The second amazing thing is Kajmak – a thick tangy cream like sauce from the Balkans. This one gives the taste of cream cheese.
To finish the burger, it’s vital to add some fresh onions! Serbs love plenty of it on their burgers. I also added some pickles and some spicy red cheese which really spicy.
Last Serbs make Pljeskavica with a bread called Lepinja. It’s similar to Pita bread.
