An old saying has it that whoever drinks the “Sweetwaters ” of Dambovita river will never wish to be parted from Bucharest.By the end, this would turn out be so true.

Traditional food, historic buildings, eclectic nightlife and beautiful girls, if you sum all this up you get “Bucharest”.The city was once upon a time called Paris of the East and I found so many good reasons to believe it.

1.)Presidential palace

It is undoubtedly the first thing to do in Bucharest.
Palace of parliament is the second largest building in the world(Pentagon is the first ).
The first impression of this building might leave your speechless.
The building has more than 20 floors{ 8 are underground }, it has 500 rooms and some hidden tunnels.
There are several options for the tour but I selected one with balcony and rooftop view
The cost is around 40 Lei for the tour.

The Victoriei street is one of the oldest, most popular, and most entertaining streets in Bucharest.It runs from north to the south of the city with a stretch of 3 Km.
The new name  Calea Victoriei (Way of Victory), was given to the street in 1878 when the Romanian troops entered Bucharest after their victory in the War of Independence.
The Street has some famous landmarks like
: The Athenaeum (1889); The Carol I Royal University Foundation (1895); The Postal Palace (1900), today the National History Museum; The Savings Palace (1901), a grandiose Neo-Renaissance style building; The Officers’ Circle (1912).

La Mama is the place where you would find authentic Romanian cuisine.The kind what a Romanian grandma would cook. A part of the restaurant resembles like an old Romanian library.The staff is friendly and the food portions are really big.

Hands down this is so far my favorite evening spot in Bucharest.Pura Vida is roof top bar located in one quiet corner of the old town.Watch as the sun sets behind these old building with glass of Romanian wine
Famous Romanian saying like this –

Good wine needs no bush.

Sarmale is a traditional Romanian food served at festivals.
Sarmale, in short, are stuff cabbage rolls. .Sarmale is traditionally served with mamaliga a kind of polenta served with sour cream.

It is one of the most beautiful religious monuments in old town Bucharest.It was built in 1724 almost 3 centuries ago.This tiny little church is famous for stone and wooden sculptures.The church also houses an open courtyard where you can loose yourself in some peace.
The entrance is free and the church is open daily from 8:30 am to 6 p.m

Dambovita River is the main river in the city.It has a story to tell. It crosses the city from West to East and tells the story of erased neighborhoods during the times of communism.It tells you the story of those old houses which survived the war.In short its a beautiful walk along the river.

Hand’s down this is Bucharest’s most beautiful building.
It is where all musical, classical and cultural events take place.This building truly to people of Bucharest.A large part of the building was contracted with help of public funds.
There was a famous slogan when the building was being constructed {Donate one Leu }.
It is surely one of the top things to see in Bucharest.

In front of the Romanian Athenaeum, there is a small park and a statue representing Mihai Eminescu, the greatest Romanian poet of all times

The Athenaeum is placed in the center of Bucharest, in the Revolution Plaza, right next to Calea Victoriei Street.

Anyway, it’s really similar to the original Arch of Triumph in Paris and you can climb up to for some paranoiac views .

Caru’ cu Bere (The Beer Cart) is not only one of the oldest restaurants in Bucharest, but it’s also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Romania’s capital, with some 2,500 people visiting it every day.For me this place is more than food and beer, it was an experience.An experience of the Romanian culture.There is live music, dance and super friendly staff.The food is authentic and the restaurant has its own beer.The interiors of the restaurant are mind-blowing and take you back to Romania of 1980’s.It’s open every day of the week however it is advisable to book a table in advance.
Do you know that
Caru’ cu Bere, is located in a historic house that once belonged to Elena Lupescu, mistress of King Carol II of Romania.

One thing you should remember when you in Romania is that don’t confuse Romanians with Gypsies.
Gypsies is an ethnic group that has been living on Romania’s territory for centuries.Being a Gypsy in Romania is the worst social stigma and most Romanians don’t like them.Also for god sake don’t confuse Budapest and Bucharest, Bucharest is the 6th largest city in the European Union .

The legends say that the city has been named after a shepherd called Dambovita Bucur, which literarily means joy.It truly was a city of joy and even though I left Bucharest a part of me was still left behind somewhere.
